Andrea Venet
Dr. Andrea Venet is a percussion artist, soloist, composer, educator, and chamber musician specializing in contemporary and classical music. She is Associate Professor and head of percussion at the University of North Florida.
In addition to giving solo recitals around the country, Venet has performed concertos with the Banda Sinfónica de la Provincia de Córdoba, Banda Sinfónica de Arroyito, Central Iowa Wind Ensemble, Roanoke Symphony, UNF Wind Symphony, and has also performed with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra. An in-demand guest artist and clinician, she has presented and performed internationally at institutions, festivals, and conferences including Universidad Provincial de Córdoba, Kyoto City University of Arts, TMEA, the Great Plains International Marimba Competition, and the Steve Weiss Mallet Festival.
Venet is a founding member of the percussion duo Escape Ten with Dr. Annie Stevens. The duo is recognized for collaborative commissioning projects, innovative programming, and dynamic touring performances, including appearances on NPR’s Performance Today. Escape Ten has performed at 40+ universities and major festivals including WASBE and Ágora Actual in Spain, McGill University, and PASIC.
An award-winning pedagogue, Venet’s creative and scholarly work centers on performance, composition, pedagogy, marimba and voice, and historically informed approaches to Bach on marimba. Her compositions and commissions have been performed internationally and featured at PASIC, including commissions by Third Coast Percussion and Drumily Percussion Group in Taiwan. Venet can be heard on the albums Revelations, This Prismasonic Rock I Stand, Our Favorite Things, Colours of a Groove, and Viñao. She currently serves on the PAS Board of Advisors.
